Sr. Software Engineer, Team Lead - Photobooks

Shutterfly pioneered the exciting world of online digital imaging. We are now looking to extend our lead by building the next generation of digital image based Products and Services.

Responsibilities:

• Lead project teams of 5-10 engineers to develop and launch high-quality software as planned.
• Lead on-going software improvements by collaborating cross-functionally.
• Collaborate with product managers, interaction designers, and other engineering teams to design great software products.
• Improve software quality and engineering efficiency on an on-going basis by adopting engineering best practices and tools.

Key Skills and Experience:

• Experience collaborating with product managers, interaction designers, and other engineering teams.
• Experience proposing creative engineering solutions to accomplish desired product requirements while minimizing costs and risks.
• Experience with developing engineering schedules that include prototyping, unit test development, incremental builds and bug-fixing, etc.
• Experience leading teams using software engineering best practices – code reviews, unit tests, source code management, build processes, etc.
• Experience managing project teams of at least 5 engineers in a fast-paced environment – release early, release often.
• Adept at risk and defect management throughout the development cycle – prioritization of tasks and bugs. Experience with proposing engineering, product, resource, schedule, and risk trade-offs.
• Significant technical experience conducting design and code reviews.
• Experience collaborating with QA; directing testing efforts to ensure test coverage.
• Experience identifying, triaging, and resolving difficult-to-reproduce software issues.
• Ability to be proficient at new technologies independently and quickly.
• Experience and passion developing mass-market consumer web or desktop software.
• Significant experience with Java and/or Flex; experience with JavaScript, CSS, AJAX development.
• Solid object-oriented software development background.
• Successful experience with Agile or lean engineering practices highly desirable.
• Desire and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing, dynamic environment.
• Minimum 10 years experience developing commercial applications.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• BS/MS in Computer Science highly desirable.
