Journaling Your Everyday Life
by Ali Edwards
Think about the basics of your life. What do you want to tell about your everyday experience? I often hear people say, “My life is boring, I do the same thing day after day.” In reality, after taking a bit of time to really take a look at their life they see that there is much more than may have appeared on the surface.
- Don’t worry about your language. Simple sentences or lists of thoughts are just fine. Let your photos guide your story.
- If you’re writing about someone besides yourself, such as a child or spouse, try starting your sentences with “today you.” Jot down a list of things your subject does throughout the day.
- Keep a small notebook or a couple pieces of scratch paper with you for the next couple of days. Jot down daily observations about simple things you are thankful for, what strikes you as beautiful, things you see, things you want to remember, etc
- Enjoy the process and be real. Life is not all roses and it is totally ok to add in the not so wonderful stuff. Everyone’s right now is unique.
